Between four and five in the afternoon, I started to have more and more contractions that were closer and more painful. The nurse asked if I wanted to have an epidural done, so I asked her if it would relieve the presser I was feeling around my pelvic area. She said that it might help a little bit, but it really would not take the pressure away. I decided not to do the epidural since the only pain I was feeling was the pressure. I have read and heard that contractions would start from the top of the uterus and go down and around the belly. I waited for the painful contraction to form around my belly, but the only thing getting stronger and more painful was the pressure in my pelvic area. And since my contractions were getting stronger, I asked to turn the pitocin off as I no longer needed it. I didn't want anymore drugs than I needed. But even with the pitocin drug off, my contractions continued to get stronger.
A few hours after my contractions had started, the nurse started to stretch out my vagina with an oily substance so that the baby would have an easier time sliding out when the time comes. In the meantime, I tossed and turned on the bed while being fed ice cubes and water. My husband would touch me and I would make him stop because his touches felt like pressure. I starting to feel sick, I told my nurse that I felt like throwing up. I would get hot then cold then hot again. I felt like I had the flu or something. I started to feel dizzy and didn't know how much more I could take. When I got closer to 10 cm dilated, the pain was steady. I kept asking if it would get much worse or stay the same. I was relieved to hear that I have pretty much felt the strongest of the contractions or more like pressure for me. I guess since I kept feeling the same level of contraction for a good half hour or so, I started to get used to the level of pain and it wasn't as bad as I thought. And especially since I knew just how painful it was going to be and not trying to guess if the next one was going to be worst.
Once I was 10cm dilated and 100% effaced, the nurse had me start pushing. This was about three and a half hours into my labor. And because I did not have any epidural, I felt the pressure get stronger and stronger as my baby entered the birth canal. It really feels like going to the bathroom, but you just can't get it out. It felt like a very bad stomach ache. I pushed as hard as I could when the nurse would tell me to push. It didn't take long, about 20 minutes later, my baby was ready to come out, poking her head near the surface. The nurse had me stop pushing while they called my ob-gyn doctor to get to the hospital. I couldn't help it and I felt like I had to push her out, so I started pushing some more. The nurse would count and tell me when to take a breath and when to push. She would also try to stretch out my vagina at the same time.
About 10 minutes later, my doctor came in with a couple more nurses. They prepped the room for the doctor in less than a minute. As soon as my doctor sat down in front of me, I gave it one or two more pushes and my baby came out. My doctor literally arrived just in time to catch my baby. After the head of my baby was out, they sucked out fluid from her mouth and nose, then I had another push for the rest of her body to come out. My doctor caught my baby and laid her on my stomach. She then gave my husband a scissor to cut the umbilical cord, which he took and cut the cord. Amazingly enough, as soon as my baby was out, my contractions stopped. The pressure I was feeling for a few hours now had stopped almost at the same moment my baby came out. My mood changed from being in pain to being relieved. It was like I never felt better. Then the doctor massaged my stomach to try to push out the placenta and any blood remaining inside of me. After a few minutes, I delivered the placenta which was discarded. My baby weighted in 6 pounds and 7 ounces and 18 inches long and arrived at
